I meant to write down my first impressions of the single so that I had an honest first impression for you. Alas, I failed. I just sat there and let the music overwhelm me.
This is First Aid Kit’s version of Ted Gärdestad’s “Come give me love”. For those who don’t know Ted’s music, he was a Swedish artist mostly active in the 1970s and then up until his tragic suicide in 1997. It shocked Sweden, but his music lives on in their hearts.
School choirs and weddings; his music is heard everywhere, and it’s loving, poetic and nostalgic. Just like the two sisters in First Aid Kit, Johanna and Klara, Ted’s brother Kenneth Gärdestad worked together, writing lyrics to most of Ted’s songs.
In anticipation of this single’s release the sisters wrote on instagram @firstaidkitband:
“As part of our Pink Ribbon campaign with @cancerfonden we’re psyched to be releasing our take on the Swedish classic ”Come Give Me Love”! Originally performed by 70s legend Ted Gärdestad and produced by ABBA, we wrote our own English translation of this gorgeous song about the end of a relationship, and recorded a version in the original Swedish.”
Honoring their Grandmother and their uncle’s wife, they have designed this year’s Pink Ribbon for Swedish Cancer Research. It’s evident and obvious how much this project means to them. They hope it will bring hope to a dark summer; a month ago they made a cover of “On the road again” by Willy Nelson to support the suffering global touring community.
Personally, I’m in love with the honor, love and care they have all put into this single, from making it available in both languages, designing the pink ribbon and the lyric video. For me as a Swede and a fan, this song has nostalgic importance to me and I’m delighted with what the sisters have once again created.

Put it on, preferably in headphones, and let it embrace you. It’s love, tears and hugs all around but oh, so much hope. Let it ring out with the words:
