The vocals of lead singer Lily Aron are a strong feature on this track, with her bold and well-controlled voice sitting alongside the well-curated melody perfectly. It proves just how indie rock doesn’t always need to centre around heartbreak and touch on negative relationships, as the band embrace the beauty of uncomplicated love through their lyrics. With positive lines such as "Now I wish upon you, only seein' in two / And I love the silence when we share the same room", it makes a refreshing change from hearing tracks in the same genre that have such a sad tone about them. Rather than exploring uncertainties and inevitable difficulties, Florence Road touch on the simple joy of being happy with someone.
As the instrumentation grows, the single develops into a big, euphoric song that was made for inviting crowds to sing along. The harmonies that flow behind the lead vocals in the chorus bring the track to its full potential and successfully mix their rock-band persona with an angelic sound. ‘Wish Upon You’ is a natural progression from intimate beginnings to a widespread indie-rock anthem, which really demonstrates the band’s ability to balance melodic intimacy with the energy of alternative pop.
With Aron on vocals alongside Emma Brandon on guitar, Ailbhe Barry on bass and Hannah Kelly on drums, Florence Road continue to build on their growing reputation. With an amassed 112 million streams across two EPs and surpassing 2.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the band is steadily on its way to a massive career. A highly enthusiastic response to the new single’s live debut in New York suggests the track already has plenty of appeal.
With their 2027 tour freshly announced, ‘Wish Upon You’ feels perfectly timed. Warm, uplifting and melodic, it captures Florence Road at their most open-hearted and demonstrates that sometimes the simplest things make the most memorable songs.
