Pop artists Madonna and Charli xcx have teamed up on ‘Danceteria Afterhours’, a remix that bridges the club cultures of two generations. The new twist on ‘Danceteria’, from Madonna’s 2026 album 'Confessions II’, was released on September 24th and is already making its way to dance floors. 

The original track pays homage to the Queen of Pop’s time in the Manhattan nightclub scene and the venue of the same name. On the single, Madonna sings about the places, people, and sights experienced back in the 1980s alongside an electric dance-pop beat. ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ has Charli xcx join the conversation, giving her the mic to share her own experience in the club music scene, filled with London late nights and her time online. 

After a quick introduction sure to perk the ears of fans, Charli xcx takes over the track with her lyrics mirroring Madonna’s original. Charli’s verse, “I get off the train, Hackney Wick / I’m sweet fifteen in a weird outfit / Got invited to perform at this party through Myspace”, leads the song’s original opening, “I get off the train, four, five, six / Walk to the club, don’t wait for sh*t” before Madonna’s returns later in the new arrangement. What follows is a fluid back and forth of the two artists as they detail their journeys into club music and its culture, while Madonna continues to own the chorus that’s paired with a heavy bass. 

Following another verse from XCX with name drops like producer A.G. Cook and musician SOPHIE (“Switch up to 2015 / Linked up with A.G. and SOPHIE”), the two join their voices for a now electric-fueled chorus. Their voices blend naturally over the fast tempo, creating a fluid sound between two different eras of vocals and music culture.

With both artists continuing to make an impact across music charts, their collaboration feels like an exciting yet authentic addition to both of their discographies. Madonna has unquestionably found her way back to the forefront of pop, continuing to find her way atop music charts. Meanwhile, Charli xcx remains a headline name, currently on her ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ tour. The 18 stops of the tour span North America, Europe, and the UK.
