Marking his first release of 2026, almost twelve months on from the delicate and soaring 'Friends', 'Livin'' explores internal conflict from a 70s-tinged viewpoint that places an emphasis on sunny, ethereal soundscapes - a sentiment captured by the single's artwork.
Recorded from the intimacy of his home studio (with production, mixing and mastering by Gavin Caine), Jacobson adds that: "The love who I wrote this about is not in my life anymore but I think I kind of acknowledge that future possibility in the song, and make peace with the fact that while I had it, I was going to embrace it with all my might. This is as close to spiritual as I can get". It's about finding solace in vulnerability, not finding fear in conflict, and learning to appreciate the present, rather than focussing on the impending stress of future tasks.
Noted as taking inspiration from Weyes Blood's 'Front Row Seat to Earth', 'Livin'' places roots in overt spirituality, as swirling, folk-tinged instrumentation offers a comforting cocoon in which to explore the narrative. With guitar riffs that wouldn't find themselves out of place on a Grateful Dead record, and lush vocals that perfectly pair with the track's surging harmonies, 'Livin'' is a soothing peek into Son of Jacob's psyche.
