Some musical projects make you want to sit in your feelings, rethink your whole past and break no contact with those who don’t deserve it; then there are projects which give you the urge to roll your windows down and belt the lyrics at the top of your lungs on your way to the beach. Caity Baser's latest summer EP ‘Super Silly Sexy Sassy Stunning Summer’ belongs in the second category. Across five tracks, Baser brings to life the joy of summer, being in love and partying till the sun rises, all set to a feel-good pop melodies.
The EP feels like you are stepping right into Baser’s world from the first listen. Baser has returned to a sound fans know and love, channeling feel good moments and relatability to her art. Baser hasn’t held back throughout this project and played the big sister role many fans look up to as she talks about topics fans experience in everyday life. There is a looseness to the whole project that suits the concept perfectly.
‘Let’s Talk’ provides an easy introduction to the project, bringing a situation Baser experienced to show fans that it’s normal and can give them comfort if they ever experience it during their life without feeling ashamed. Following next is ‘Flaunt It’, an anthem for girls to feel comfortable within their body no matter how big their boobs are. This track flourishes with confidence and feels like a pre-drinks warm-up track to set the tone for the night ahead on the dance floor.
'Where’s My Bikini' is where the EP enters the silly side of Baser’s personality, leaning into the ridiculousness and chaos that comes with summer when in your 20’s. Rather than painting a perfect picture of her vacations and summer as a whole, she captures the reality and humour of these memorable moments.
'Holiday Song' was the first single of the project, setting the perfect summery tone for the songs to come, and Baser did not disappoint. It feels destined for sunny afternoons, summer road trips and running around the beaches with your friends during a heatwave. This track has the perfect instrumental that you just desired to get up and dance.
As the project closes, Baser ends on a high with an upbeat feel-good pop track which is perfect for the club. ‘Best Night Of My Life’ leaves the project on a celebratory level. It feels like a holiday you are not ready to leave yet and want to continue to live in the moment for days to come, bringing the EP’s carefree atmosphere full circle.
