Australian singer-songwriter and actor Troye Sivan is back with a brand new single, ‘She’s the Best’ - the title track for his upcoming fourth studio album. Stepping out of the intense hyper-sensual ‘Something to Give Each Other’ and ‘SWEAT’ eras, it gives listeners an ode to the women and non-binary icons who inspire Sivan.
The song moves away from the upbeat bangers to a more relaxed 1990s trip-hop combined with alt-rock elements. Co-produced with Jack Antonoff, Styalz Fuego, and George Daniel (The 1975), it relies on a drum loop layered with gritty electric guitars. Sivan then goes for a cool spoken-word delivery, letting the low-key groove lead the track, which ends with an uncredited outro by Charli xcx.
Through the lyrics, Sivan composes a love letter celebrating the divine feminine, a sentiment that is also reflected in the Instagram posts announcing the release of this track. With the caption, “Boys have come and gone, work has come and gone, but I have always, always had my girls”, he encouraged fans to put on their headphones, walk down the street while listening to this song, and look around to see that “the divine feminine is everywhere”.
The track was released with a cinematic music video, directed by Gordon Von Steiner, set in the late-night New York streets, starring the Oscar-winning Nicole Kidman with the legendary drag performer Sasha Colby and Sivan’s sister Sage. Kidman plays the role of a glamorous mother of the dancers at a basement club, and eventually Sivan joins the cast in a high-fashion full drag ensemble, absolutely celebrating queer joy and sisterhood.
As the opening track, ‘She’s the Best’ gives us the perfect window into Sivan’s upcoming album. This era seems less focused on heartbreak and more on community and long-term bonds. With the cinematic visuals of the music video, this single shows us an artist who’s focusing on conceptual depth over quick radio hits.
