The Lathums Navigate Doubt And Uncertainty With ‘Vice Versa’

One of Wigan’s finest bands, The Lathums, are back with a new track to mark their latest era following the release of their fantastic third studio album ‘Matter Does Not Define’. After teasing the track on social media for the past two weeks, fans are now treated to the exceptional new single ‘Vice Versa’. Talking about the track on Instagram, the band shares, ‘it became a conversation about the contradictions we all carry - the push and the pull and the give and the take’. This release marks the band's first single in over a year and is co-written by Iain Archer, who has also written with the likes of Jake Bugg and Liam Gallagher. 

All of The Lathums' music feels like it was crafted with meticulous care, and it shows yet again with this new release; they don’t feel like a band that would settle for anything less than perfect. The clever lyrics of ‘In life’s dirty laundry, we’re tied together like embroidery’ slip straight off the tongue. Frontman Alex Moore again shows off his exceptional lyricism and his magnificent ability to put words together. 

‘Vice Versa’ feels very much like them. It opens with a signature guitar introduction that breaks down into vocals accompanied by a thumping drumbeat. The track captures the feeling of questioning yourself and everything you do. It expertly and honestly conveys that emotional contradiction, paired with a strong, upbeat melody. 

Along with the release of the track comes a new music video directed by James Slater, who frequently collaborates with the band. The video is visually appealing, with a contrast of blue and pink throughout.

Overall, this is another solid track from the band which feels authentic and well-produced. With this release, it seems like a new era is on the horizon. It's going to be exciting to see how it unfolds, with the band supporting Courteeners this November: tickets are on sale now.
