After a decade-long stint as a successful actress (Emmerdale, The Dumping Ground), Manchester-born Izzy Steele has ditched the scripts — as well as her birth name — to release music under the solo project Little Dog Star. Now based in London and fresh off the back of her sophomore EP release, we chat with Steele about fan run-ins, her little car, and supporting Stella Lefty as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
Hi I’m Little Dog Star & I’m from Manchester.
What do our readers need to know about you?
I’m always in my little car! It’s where I consume the most music, decompress & think. I love it in there.
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
I have my EP coming out on the 17th July. It’s called ‘something infinite’ and I couldn’t be prouder of it.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
I always find it funny that so many people recognise me from my voice alone. I’ll be talking to my mum in a supermarket and people immediately clock it. I’ve had some lovely chats with fans in so many bizarre places I couldn’t name just one!
What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?
I just opened for Stella Lefty at Hoxton Hall and playing that show felt like a real shift for me. People knew my songs, they were listening they were there with me. Everyone I loved was in the crowd, it was such a special night.
What are your three “desert island” albums?
So so hard to narrow down. But I’ll never be sick of these albums.
'Say I Am You' - The Weepies
'I Don’t Live Here Anymore' - The War On Drugs
'In The End It Always Does' - The Japanese House
Sum up your sound in three words.
Raw, humorous, assertive.
