The track is a poignant techno-pop bop which came about when Imbruglia realised that she was trying too hard to hide her own heartbreak and protect other people whilst going through a breakup. 

Although not a groundbreaking subject matter, the way in which the emotive lyrics are paired with strong 80s-inspired synth makes for a unique listening experience - one that makes you want to dance like no one is watching and cry into a pillow at the same time. 

In a similar manner to the other two singles from the album, ‘Upside Down’ and ‘Algorithm’, Imbruglia refuses to rinse and repeat any of her previous work throughout this three-and-a-half-minute track. She is clearly adamant about playing around with form and genre as much as she can, preventing her sound from becoming stale. 

The track can definitely be compared to 2000s club-bangers such as Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ and Agnes’ ‘Release Me’. But make no mistake, ‘Just Drive’ has its own definitive sound, which comes from Imbruglia’s exposed vulnerability due to the personal nature of the song. It is a tender, cathartic floor-filler that combines pulsating electronic beats with powerful yet ethereal vocals. 

‘Just Drive’ is a triumphant banger with heart and soul from a superb and seasoned songstress.
