Boasting several accolades, including two EPs, sold-out headline shows, and even winning EP Of The Year for ‘SEVEN’ from BBC Introducing, Lois’ musicianship is being recognised by listeners up and down the country. Having honed her songwriting skills from a young age, which have supported her musical success, Lois explores complex themes in her work, notably grief and identity in her earlier EPs.
This emotional awareness, coupled with her signature sound, is clear on ‘Holy Water’, which turns shame into joy through its feisty and unapologetic narrative: “‘Cause I don’t wanna wait on you / Waiting for / You to finally / Figure it out”. As 80s synth pop is given the floor, punchy beats and enticing harmonies draw listeners in from the start. Defined melodies and exceptional vocal control grace the track as Lois explores the intricacies of love, compromise, and escapism in relationships. Discussing her latest single, she explains that: “Holy Water is for the lovers that love in the face of anything”.
While the chorus of the song is well-composed and thoughtful, the breakdown is the highlight in ‘Holy Water’. Anthemic, personal, and relatable, the layered vocals contribute to the themes of acceptance and realisation (“Over and out”) that support the end of the track.
