Welsh indie rock band The Fiends make a return with their highly anticipated new single ‘Sonder.’ The song ends more than a year-long wait for new music from the band. The catchy, indie love-song carries echoes of the anthemic summer sound made famous by Catfish and The Bottlemen.
The song's intro erupts into your ears, with leading man Ethan Goslett’s (better known as Eggy) radio-ready voice charging through the driving guitar melody. It instantly grabs attention with lyrics that spin around in your head and refuse to leave for days.
The title gives the track a deeper twist, referencing the realisation that every other person carries a life as rich and complicated as our own. The lyrics add to this by focusing on how a single person’s presence has transformed the world they once knew: “Before I knew you / Before I knew you / Life was grey / Before I knew you / Before I knew you / I never had much to say / But anyway.”
Despite its slight emotional edge, the song never loses its momentum. It blends heartfelt lyricism with soaring guitars and singalong lyrics. The song feels equally at home on a festival stage as it does blasting through the speakers on a drive home.
The band will release the track the same day they are set to support Swansea rock band Black Havana in the renowned Welsh venue Clwb Ifor Bach, giving fans the chance to hear the song performed live from the moment it debuts.
