The song, produced by Jonah Summerfield, opens with a 20s instrumental which has an upbeat piano melody accompanied by strings & flute, giving the track a dreamy, warm feel as it builds up to the first verse.
Mann begins with the lyrics, "From time to time I find myself reflecting on it all / every stupid thing I’ve ever said and wanted to become / I’ve changed my life’s direction, one too many times". The lyrics following continue to describe the thoughts that come with not knowing what career path you want to settle into. The lines are extremely honest and represent thoughts that people at any stage of their careers can relate to.
Both the song and the music video do a great job of storytelling. At the beginning of the video, we see Mann change between different outfits, each representing a different career choice, such as an accountant, lawyer, baker, and parking warden, among others.
As the song reaches the chorus, Mann sees herself on a TV, performing live on stage, now as the musician, whilst the strings and flute begin to pick back up, "At least I know for sure / one thing that will never change at all / is you / you’re all that I need". The video then goes on to show Mann experiencing everyday inconveniences; missing the train and being caught in bad weather. Alongside the chorus, the song can represent how many creatives may feel, despite not knowing what they may want to do with the rest of their lives - they may be constantly coming back to a certain creative outlet they know will always be there.
