TEEN SUICIDE Share 'Suffering (Mike's Way)'

In preparation for the album, ‘Nude descending staircase headless’TEEN SUICIDE returns to the sludge metal scene with the third release of their new album track list, while discovering a different sound in ‘Suffering (Mike’s Way)’. This is the first album from the band since 2022, although the band released one EP for this project, as well as worked on their solo projects in the time between.

‘Suffering (Mike’s Way)’ is unlike the previous two releases, ‘Idiot’ and ‘Spiders’, in the run up to the album. This single focuses more on instrumental clarity and less on heavy vocals as seen in the previous two releases. It still demands attention, but in a different manner; it’s there to be reflected on and appreciated in a calmer and more positive way, like a respite from the heavier songs of the album.

Although, the vocals definitely still pack a heavy punch, with both Sam and Kitty Ray having the same heavy and whiny tone when singing these catchy lyrics, the lyrics are generally more optimistic than their previous releases. It’s a song about how life is better when you feel everything, instead of taking opiates and feeling nothing. It’s a piece about moving forward when you’re struggling to even get through the day, then at the end of it, you can look back and say: I done it!

With a more upbeat and cleaner tone, there's a clear contrast to a lot of their most popular early releases, which were heavy on slow instrumentals and vocal distortion. The track is heavy, but keeps a sweet and almost nostalgic feel throughout. It is reminiscent of early 2000s rock in the way that drums and electric guitar are what are pulling the song forward.

If ‘Suffering (Mike’s Way)’ is anything to go by, this new album is going to blow the socks off their listeners: with a new sound, TEEN SUICIDE are a band you should keep your eye on.
