Hyperpop is a genre that has exploded in popularity in recent years, with the likes of SOPHIE, A.G. Cook, Charli xcx, and 100 gecs locked in as some of the biggest names in the movement.
For those who don’t know, Suuncaat is a multidisciplinary artist from Montreal who has been steadily rising through the experimental electronic scene with a sound uniquely her own. She continues to impress with her new track, ‘Indigo’, a sugar-rush of a tune that leaves you wanting more.
Opening with a glitchy ambience, the track quickly turns into a jittery ride full of distorted vocals and chaotic production, creating an atmospheric world you can sink into over its two and a half minute runtime. A lot of Suuncaat’s music has a shimmering quality that collides with the distortion and chaos of the genre, and 'Indigo' is no exception.
The track also features production from Lew Husbands, who brings a fresh and interesting input to ‘Indigo’ compared to Suuncaat’s previous material. There's a distinct polish here that isn't always present in her earlier tracks, making the track a more accessible style of hyperpop and subtly more radio-friendly.
‘Indigo’ shines in many areas, particularly its energetic production and Suuncaat's standout vocals, and it proves that the hyperpop field remains a genre bristling with invention and personality.
