Seven Questions With Dea Matrona

We chat with Mollie of Dea Matrona ahead of their upcoming European arena tour with Sting, about her desert island album picks, wedding songs, and festival season as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.

Introduce yourself and where you’re from.

My name is Mollie & I’m part of Dea Matrona, an alt-rock band from the North of Ireland,

What do our readers need to know about you?

I met Orláith (my bandmate) while we were competing against each other in local talent shows. There was a talent show we both wanted to enter with one spot left, so we were forced to do it together, and after that, we became friends and started busking on the streets of Belfast. We spent over four years busking & playing as a cover band & even had a four-hour cover set at one point.

What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?

We’re heading out on our first arena tour supporting Sting in Europe, which is a huge milestone for us! We’ll also be playing at the Isle of Wight Festival and releasing a new album filled with our most personal, darkest songs yet.

What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?

Last month, two women told us they’re planning to walk down the aisle to our song 'Glory, Glory' at their wedding, which we thought was so sweet!!

What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?

I loved playing a full set of our own music in the Royal Albert Hall. After years of writing & producing our songs, performing them in such an iconic venue was surreal. Another big “pinch me” moment was opening for one of my favourite bands, The Beaches, at Brixton Academy.

What are your three “desert island” albums?

Carole King 'Tapestry', ABBA 'GOLD' & 'The Fame' by Lady Gaga.

Sum up your sound in three words.

Dark. Sad. Sexy.
