LEAP is rapidly growing in popularity and gaining the reputation of one of the most exciting bands on the alternative rock and roll scene. With their debut album ‘Entropy’ released last year, the British group drew attention from fans both in Europe and across the ocean.
On April 18th, LEAP performed at Proxima in Warsaw as a part of their current ENTROPY tour, with the show marking the second of the three stops in Poland. Originally, the event was to take place at the Hybrydy club, but it was later moved to a larger venue due to high ticket demand. It goes to show that the Polish fanbase grew quickly since the release of the album - as the vocalist Jack Balfour Scott later said during the show, their last concert in Poland, which took place on November 26th 2024 in Hydrozagadka, was only for about a hundred people, whereas now it was about 800 (add to the fact that it was one of 3 shows in the country as mentioned earlier!).
Welsh alt-rock artist Hana Lili and her band opened the night at 7:15 PM, and it turned out to be a very high-energy show; they quickly connected with the crowd. The set was about 30 minutes long, and during that time, you could hear songs like ‘Ur Girlfriend’s a Lawyer’, ‘Sick of Myself’, or ‘Not Fair’ - a track released only the day before the show. At some point during the set, you could even find yourself in the same mosh pit alongside the LEAP singer, which only added to the excitement. To close the show, Hana Lili created a special moment for the gals - she called out for a girls-only mosh pit, so those who were afraid to participate in one before could try it out and mosh with the singer.
Before LEAP took to the stage around 8:20 PM, there was a feeling in the room, as if this was a much larger event, even an arena kind of show. Everybody was waiting impatiently and thrilled to finally see the band - some for the first time and some 1.5 years after their first Warsaw gig. The band opened the show with ‘Over & Out’ and then moved to ‘Play Dead’, which are also the first two songs from their debut album, that we could hear in full that night. In addition to ‘Entropy’ material, the fans could also hear tracks like ‘Show Me The Way You Love’ from the ‘Dark Habits’ EP, ‘One Million Pieces’, and ‘Where The Silence Goes’ from the ‘One Million Pieces’ EP. LEAP left the stage after performing ‘Energies’, but no one really believed that this would be the end of the show. Everybody was calling out the band loudly, and they finally came for the encore to play two more songs - one of them being ‘Exit Signs’, probably one of their most popular tracks.
What clearly stands out about LEAP is the fact that, unlike many other formations where there’s usually one member dominating the stage, here the charisma seems to be evenly shared. Whether it’s Jack Balfour Scott, Hector Cottam (drums), Adam Mason (guitar), or Declan Brown (bass guitar), it doesn’t really matter - each one has their own presence and brings out the energy that makes the whole performance more engaging and compelling to watch.
Overall, the night at Proxima felt genuinely joyful for the crowd that obviously had a great time singing loudly from start to finish. No one seemed to wait for one specific song - people were having just as much fun with every track in the set. For anybody considering going to the LEAP show - it’s certainly worth it!
