With lines about past loves who have “found somebody new / At a silent retreat, oh that's so you”, and the decision to carry on with your life and not dwell on the loss of the relationship - “And I'm in a band, we're doing okay” - it captures how bittersweet moving on can be. The chorus offers glimmers of how you can change in relationships: “And you can have my heart, it's yours for free / But you don't see the fact / I never want it back”. It feels like they still hold the heart of the person you used to be, but this song makes it feel okay to grow; it’s okay to not be that version of yourself anymore. The production is unmistakably Giant Rooks, leaning into their indie-rock sound with a beat that underpins the song’s emotional core and makes you want to dance – whether at a live show or just in the sunshine. Combined with the crisp guitars cutting through, adding an extra edge to the track, and lead singer Frederik Rabe’s vocals tie it all together to make their signature sound, polished yet raw enough to capture their live energy.
The accompanying music video traces the memories of summers gone by, with a hint of the fun and chaos of running around as a child, to the passion that comes with falling in love. These scenes merge into surreal images of houses exploding and the band burning up. Snippets of the band playing show the room they’re in expanding, the more the song goes on, the more the video goes from a sunny summer love to the house burning down. Alongside the fiery imagery, it shows the tension of actually being okay after a break-up and pretending to be.
It has the potential to be one of the best songs of summer 2026, and to stay on repeat long after.
