American Football triumphantly mark their return with their latest single ‘No Feeling’ , featuring Turnstile’s Brendan Yates, ahead of their fourth studio album ‘LP4’ (set for release on 1st May via PolyVinyl).
‘No Feeling’ takes the band’s signature shoegazy emo style to a whole new level. Crafted with haunting guitar riffs and a slow and steady drum pattern that gently eases listeners into the heart of the song, the track provides fans with an unseen side to the band, leaving them excited for what the Illinois quartet have up their sleeves.
The track describes the painful feelings of loss, especially when lyrics including “tell the doctors I’m one / one last goodbye and one last kiss / it’s just an eternal blank page” are paired with a perfect harmony between lead singer Mike Kinsella and Yates' vocals. Despite the soul-crushing emotional weight of the song, there’s sprinkles of hope throughout the almost five minute run-time, thanks to the sparkly synths and group vocals which occasionally pepper the track.
With ‘LP1’ turning 26 soon, it’s evident that American Football have had time to refine their sound since their songs were first released to the mainstream. ‘No Feeling’ makes it abundantly clear that all of the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into making American Football who they are has truly paid off.
