Von Vella Remind Us Not All Love Is The Same

A relationship has to be built on more than love to flourish, and ‘Brand New Boy’ by Vona Vella questions what effort is needed to make that love last. At its core, the track plays on the idea that just being close to another cannot be all there is. With the chorus starting with, “It’s not enough to just be together / It’s not enough to be on time,” it reinforces the message that only presence is not enough to prove that you care for someone. There are many love languages out there, and Vona Vella makes their listeners remember that.

The band, composed of Izzy Davis, Dan Cunningham, Jake Bolt, Claud J Melton, and Dexter Howell come together to make this beautiful song the masterpiece it is. The way they balance out each other to create a song that sounds like a small moment of vulnerability shared with their audience is something that should be studied.

The wordplay in this track stands out as well, “My brand new boy he wants to lie in / My band new boy he wants to lie”, There’s a balance of dishonesty and intimacy that occupy the space within this song, where new love has places of distrust that have not been eliminated yet in fear of what lies beneath. The notion of being torn between what to believe is a powerful force.

In the end, it's up to the listener to realize that love takes many shapes and sizes.
