Rainbow Kitten Surprise Share New Single ‘Sixteen’

Alternative indie-rock band Rainbow Kitten Surprise recently released their latest single ‘Sixteen’, marking the band’s first release of the year following their album ‘bones’, which was released in September 2025. Currently, the band are on the road for their ‘bones’ tour across America, after touring Australia in the earlier months of 2026.

The song begins with guitar, drums and vocals by lead singer Ela Melo. The vocals, when combined with the lyrics, make this track unique, with the chorus being a particular example: "And you're falling apart, falling apart, oh / For having a heart, having a hard time / Letting it go". Throughout many of the band’s songs, thanks to Melo’s powerful vocals, there is this cathartic feeling carried within the chorus, typically amplified by the emotional lyrics; a pattern that this single doesn’t stray from.

For this track, the band’s members record live in the studio together, rather than layering the song, which is reminiscent of classic indie-rock garage bands and helps to capture the raw energy of the group’s performance. When discussing the song in an Instagram post, the band explained that the track, alongside a few others, was recorded during the ‘bones’ sessions, but it didn’t quite fit the record overall. Despite that, the band were still proud of the song, hence its release.

The band had also performed the track for fans numerous times on tour, letting audiences get familiar with it and building hype around its release. The live-recording aspect meant fans received the version of the song they heard performed on stage with that same energy.

Many of the band’s loyal fans took to commenting about how they can’t wait for the band to share more of the unreleased songs recorded within those same sessions, with the band’s Instagram account responding to one commenter, who expressed wanting to hear more, stating that ‘you will!’.  There is no doubt that the Rainbow Kitten Surprise's audience are ready to hear more of what they have to offer. Hopefully, we will soon see if that’s another track or two - or even an EP.
