Foo Fighters Come Back Fighting With ‘Your Favorite Toy’

The screaming vocals of Dave Grohl are flooding back into our lives with the release of Foo Fighters’ latest single, ‘Your Favorite Toy’, the title track of their upcoming twelfth studio album. This lead single is characteristically "the Foos" in every way we’ve come to love -  adorned with all the layers of distorted guitars and playful lyricism that’s been rattling stadiums globally for the last thirty years. Since the passing of longtime Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, the discussion around who will provide the backing for one of rock’s all-time greats has been the talk of the town. Stepping up to the plate for the latest offering is the supremely talented Ilan Rubin, bringing all the passion-filled drive that has propelled and sustained the Foo Fighters as being 21st-century rock’s pre-eminent band.

It remains to be seen whether ‘Your Favorite Toy’ continues down the intensely emotional avenues explored in the Foo’s previous album, ‘But Here we Are’– recorded following arguably the toughest period for the group. From what we’ve heard so far, most clues point to a return to the high-octane thrash of the early days of the group, which has reignited the excitement of fans worldwide after the band’s three-year absence from the studio. Mind you, the American rockers haven’t been silent between album cycles, having closed out last year with a run of shows in their home country, and playing a string of much more intimate venues – reminiscent of the venues lead singer Dave Grohl would’ve played at the infancy of his time in Nirvana

Perhaps this is what the Foo Fighters are in 2026, removed from their constraints and returning to what made them such a force in the music industry – loud, raw, and fast. With a world tour lined up this summer, ‘Your Favorite Toy’ might be the vehicle all the Foo’s members needed to get back out and rocking. For reasons spanning the chasm between good and bad, the Foo Fighters have held an awful lot of media attention throughout their lifespan, but if their latest offering is anything to go by, they’re not bothered either way. Their rock and roll is why we love them, and Grohl’s allusion to his attitude of “big smile, try not to choke on the glitter” offers an insight into his feelings about this life of notoriety. Perhaps a life of headlining festivals and topping charts comes with its drawbacks, and this newest project will serve as a return to what the band’s roots of playing their music for themselves - and hopefully playing it loud.
