Project Meg Shows Vulnerability And Perseverance On Force Quit

After a successful stint participating in a plethora of musical projects that saw her command the stage at Festivals such as Glastonbury and Truck (OhBoy!), performing in venues up and down the UK (Sarpa Salpa) and supporting Metallica on their 'M72' world tour (unpeople), Meg Mash is taking a turn at carving out her own private slice of the music industry, operating under the apt moniker PROJECT MEG.

Though her previous projects have swept through DIY-indie, heavy rock, and riveting grunge, here, as the solo PROJECT MEG, Mash is finding her home in emo-tinged cuts - in a delightfully personal Alvvays meets Paramore sonic concoction.

The narrative of her first release as PROJECT MEG reflects on the circumstances that led to Mash's departure from unpeople. Battling long COVID and the resulting chronic conditions was not a decision she felt as though was a free choice - she was forced to quit for the sake of both her physical and mental health. A completely unfiltered and raw debut outing, the resulting track, 'force quit', sees her vulnerably reflecting on the paths that led her to the present. 'force quit' harnesses cathartic instrumentation and driving emo-pop vocals - with Mash utilising music as a therapeutic channel for processing the grief of her band, health, and total independence.

Produced alongside Simon Jackson (Blank AtlasBlood Command), Mash notes that: "Simon’s music taste complements mine so well that we were able to inject more energy [into the songs] through layered guitars and harmonies".

Plucked from her upcoming debut EP ('asbent from it all') - slated for release early March - is an impressive return from PROJECT MEG, and stands not just as a powerful cut, but as a bold act of unwavering resilience and proud defiance.
