Taylor Momsen's The Pretty Reckless Reclaim Cindy Lou Who With Music Video For 'Where Are You Christmas?'

Taylor Momsen might be the front-woman of rock band The Pretty Reckless, but her career in the spotlight first kicked off back in 2000 when she starred in Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (starring Jim Carrey)

Momsen embraces her Christmas past in the band’s latest official music video for the festive track Where Are You Christmas?, directed by Ethan Lader. The video features her younger self, with Momsen reclaiming the Cindy Lou Who that has been known and loved on so many television screens over the years, in a way that suits her.

Taylor Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless, recently released a Christmas EP with Fearless Records, ‘Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas’, and the festive, joyous and nostalgic energy of the EP is encapsulated perfectly in the music video.

The video opens with a clip of Momsen’s younger self being announced on a 2000s-style TV, starring the 7-year-old singer’s vocals. The scene appears to be set in a childhood bedroom where adult Momsen watches on, before joining in with her child self in a goosebump-inducing moment of self-reflection and nostalgia.

But the track soon explodes into an electric rock section, where the video segues into a charged performance characteristic of The Pretty Reckless, featuring bright Christmas lights, sparkly instruments, faux snow, and a bucketful of energy (along with a couple of sneaky references to the original film, including Max the dog).

The beauty of the video, however, comes in the final section where the genre switches once again, giving Momsen centre-stage in a stunning red mesh dress. It is the simplicity of this section that makes the viewer really reflect on the lyrics at hand, especially in the poignant moment where 7-year-old Momsen reappears to share the final line, "Did Christmas change? / Or just me”.
