Seven Questions With Cherry i

London quartet Cherry i are championing confessional honesty through a discography that weaves through art-rock and soulful folk.

With their cathartic and explorative new cut, 'Mistake' now out, we caught up with Cherry i to discuss future plans and their desert island albums as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame series.

What do our readers need to know about you?

We have just released a track called 'Mistake', slightly based on my insecurities when it comes to making music as well as my nightmares about a tall man who has his suit on backwards that I keep following, the latter started as a side effect of my antidepressants:)

Other than that! We’re a band, we play music that we think is good, and there are four of us. Ant (drums), Nikol (lead Vox + rhythm guitar), Slava (bass) and Nastya (back Vox + lead guitar).

What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?

I’m finishing up editing for the music video that goes along with that track featuring the creepy guy with his suit on backwards. coming out next Tuesday. Currently working on releasing our first EP.

What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?

Don’t know if this counts as a run-in with a fan, but we made someone cry at our gig once. With a fair amount of guilt, I admit I was flattered until they told me they broke up with their partner that day and were feeling emotional.

What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?

Probably playing The Windmill so far? I really treasure all these cool venues that are accessible to everyone in London and won’t shut up about it. I’ve seen such amazing acts play these places and feel honoured being able to say I played there too. It’s crazy, stupid cool. It’s basically the birthplace of good music.

What are your three “desert island” albums?

Nikol:

'Either/Or' - Elliot Smith
'OK Computer' - Radiohead
'Be The Cowoy' - Mitski

Nastya:
'The Doors' - The Doors
'Nevermind' - Nirvana
'Cure For Pain' - Morphine

Slava:
'The Fat of the Land' - The Prodigy
'Suzuki' - Tosca
'5' - Sault

Ant:
'Electric Warrior' - T-Rex
'Houses of the Holy' - Led Zeppelin
'Skylight' - Pinegrove

Sum up your sound in three words.

Shoegaz-y/ indie-ish/ Grungey-ish
