'Relationship Killer': ABBIGAIL's Stab At Betrayal

Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter ABBIGAIL has been captivating listeners with her raw, introspective narratives and lush forays into melancholy-tinged pop.

Harking similarities to her sad-pop genre comrades Lizzy McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers, her newest cut, 'Relationship Killer', is a stripped-back, emotive offering that explores betrayal and heartache.

Marking only her sophomore release - the first being 2024's infectious 'sad girl summer' - 'Relationship Killer' is ABBIGAIL's bold next step towards achieving her ambitious "365 days to getting signed" goal.

Teasing the release via cryptic captions, scrabble-piece lyrics, and crime-scene polaroids on her Instagram, the track was a hotly anticipated return.

Self-described as a "professional overthinker", 'Relationship Killer' dives deep into the circumstances of a romantic entanglement, unravelling the threads of mistrust with a stark and reflective emotional clarity. Showcasing complete vulnerability, ABBIGAIL retrospectively interrogates ("how could I know that you were so heartless?"), and confesses the aftermath of the heartbreak ("pick me apart / now I'm destroying myself"). Delicately penned lyrics and wistfully designed metricals offer exemplary evidence of ABBIGAIL's aptitude, not just as a musician, but as a poetically inclined songwriter ("Jekyll and Hyde / that look in your eyes").

Sonically, the track boasts an intricate soundscape with delicate guitar lines at its core, which allow her lush vocals to take centre-stage.

Haunting and elegiac, 'Relationship Killer' is an impressive second offering from the rising star.
