King No-One continue to carry the crown of indie pop-rock with their brand-new single ‘Turkey Dinosaurs’.
Straight off the bat, you can tell that the Leeds-based band know exactly what they’re doing. James Basile’s tantalising drums open up the track before Joe Martin’s crunchy guitars create the high-energy backbone when they come rushing in.
The song explores the struggles of coming from a working-class background: “it’s a little harder if you wanna get out of these ends”, as they balance a fun melody with heart-wrenching lyrics (“why can’t we be beautiful? Like them / the kids on TV ain’t like me and my friends”).
The dynamics are ever shifting; they have a knack for knowing when to slow down so listeners can fully appreciate what’s being served before them. Rob Gration’s bass shines through, piling the metaphorical plate high with irresistible grooves while Zach Lout’s vocals give a subtle sultry to the song, making for an unforgettable listen.
Packed with a punch, ‘Turkey Dinosaurs’ maintains the excellent standard that the band consistently reach and gives a delightful glimpse into what they might still have up their sleeves.
