'Your Street': ettie’s Victory Lap

London-based singer-songwriter ettie’s eclectic new single, ‘Your Street’, is here.

The song is a message to an ex-lover, as ettie reminisces on their unhealthy relationship before drawing back to her current, improved situation. Ultimately, it is a tale of karma, as she taunts: “You could’ve had the world, but you settled for the corner of your street” in reference to her versus her ex’s new partner.

Sonically, ettie delivers a mixed platter - the final product being a tune that wouldn’t be out of place in the soundtrack of a coming of age film. Her vocals switch effortlessly between pitches, allowing her to both showcase the extent of her impressive vocal range and emphasise certain lines. For example, when she slows into “You walked out with intention” we can practically feel her rage burning through the microphone. The instrumentation follows a similar pattern, slowing to match her vocal pace and pausing to allow her words to hit with maximum impact.

The most potent moment of the song, however, is in its very last line. ettie delivers the same line repeated throughout the song, but with a new spin: “You could’ve had the world, you could’ve had me”. This is the final blow to her ex, sealing the track’s message as she completes her victory lap.
