Bold and clever, you would be forgiven for thinking that Champ has been going on for far longer than just two years with its second single, ‘Future’.
Following along from ‘Taste To Run’, ‘Future’ helps to welcome the next chapter of the band, one filled with classic indie anthems and tender lyricism.
Packing a punch into a two-minute song, Champ is a force to be reckoned with and it seems like nothing can get in the way of stopping the indie four-piece. Jonny Bee’s vocals are a masterpiece, demonstrating how indie-rock should be. With nods to legends in this game, such as early Biffy Clyro and Wunderhorse, it’s no wonder that the Hartlepool quartet is one to watch out for in what’s left of 2025 and beyond.
Tom Sotheran’s drums are simply incredible. Providing a sturdy backbone to the track, they allow the song to branch out while never going out of style, making you want to return again and again. This is only complemented by the guitars, which pepper the song with irresistible riffs, letting you get your groove on for a while.
Poignant, promising, and powerful, the latest single from Champ marks an exciting journey for the band, one that you certainly don’t want to miss out on when it tours later this year.
