The Joiners was packed with fans ready for an unforgettable sold-out night with Only The Poets. The Reading-based four-piece are renowned for their high-energy performances, and they did not disappoint.
The crowd erupted as the band stepped onto the stage, opening with ‘Miserable’. Tommy Longhurst’s commanding vocals instantly filled the venue, setting the tone as he took full ownership of the stage. Instrumentals immediately electrified the venue and were paired with harmonising backing vocals from Clem Cherry, Marcus Yates and Andy Burge- creating new dimensions to the track. Every movement across the stage radiated confidence and intent. Transitioning into ‘Mindset’, the room was bathed in glowing green and blue lights, amplifying the vibrant atmosphere.
The Joiners holds a special significance for the band, having hosted them back in 2023 during their Homecoming UK tour. Returning now to an even bigger, more electric crowd is a clear testament to their growth. Just when it seemed the atmosphere had reached its peak, the energy skyrocketed as the opening notes of ‘Over & Over’ rang out. Hearing it live- especially the heartfelt refrain “No I don't care if it's a late night, long drive / I don't mind another red eye to sunrise / No matter what I go through / ’Cause I’d do it all for you, over and over”- carried a liberating weight. That same sense of release rippled through the room, as fans leapt and sang with pure joy.
The band then introduced a brand-new, (then) unreleased track titled ‘Saké’. Only The Poets have been teasing fans with this track since playing it at their London Scala show back in February, to which the reaction was incredible, and fans have been eagerly awaiting its release ever since. After the track was played, Tommy checked the time and got the crowd hyped by leading a countdown to 'Saké'’s release.
The band introduced their next track with a playful remark before the countdown to 'Saké'’s release: “this is our latest single for the last four minutes”. They launched into ‘Emotionally Hungover’ before flowing straight into ‘Guess She’s Cool’, both featured on their upcoming debut album ‘And I'd Do It Again’, set for release on 30th January 2026. The crowd sang along to every lyric, proving just how deeply the album has already resonated, even ahead of its release.
When the band launched into ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’ and ‘One More Night’, Tommy’s vocals cut through with raw emotion and undeniable passion. Andy Burge on bass brings a super groovy bassline to ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’, giving the whole track a cool, laid-back feel that keeps things moving and making the studio version of the song come to life. Bathed in waves of pink and blue light, the tracks had the whole room moving so fiercely it felt as though the floor itself might give way. “We’re all gonna jump!” Tommy urged- and without hesitation, the crowd did exactly that.
The band closed the night in true Only The Poets fashion with ‘JUMP!’, sending the atmosphere to new heights. For the finale, Tommy had the entire crowd drop to the floor, calling out anyone who didn’t join in, before launching them all back into a frenzy. Not a single person in the venue stood still- the room was very alive from beginning to end with voices and movement. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable evening overflowing with energy, emotion, and unity.
