Fiercely inventive punk trio 9 o’Clock Nasty have released their latest single, ‘Game Fit’, a track that captures an urban industrial sound through a unique blend of hip-hop and punk for a captivating sound.
Starting out in Leicestershire, 9 o’clock thrives on breaking genre boundaries and crafting side-eyed commentaries on the world around them through bold and unpredictable rhythms and grooves to seamlessly craft polished yet gritty soundscapes.
Their latest single, ‘Game Fit, ’ attacks the senses by starting with a simple yet innovative beat that builds up in tenacity and tempo. The clanging drums and percussion crash together and create a mechanical sound that booms and echoes, giving it an urban, old-school feeling, but the use of jagged guitars and electronics adds a heavy contrast and projects it into a futuristic soundscape, taking influence from Gorillaz.
Vocally, the delivery adds to the mechanical feeling; the delivery is both dry and biting as though each word is being said through both a sneer and a smirk, and sits perfectly in the band’s signature between satire and sincerity.
‘Game Fit’ is a bold statement from a band that refuses to play by the rules. With its fusion of medicinal rhythms, punk attitude, and hip-hop swagger, 9 o’Clock Nasty continues to push boundaries and prove they are masters of genre-bending, creating a sound that is distinctly theirs.
