The track is a masterful blend of upbeat instrumentation and melancholic lyrics, as electro-pop elements drench the singer’s sad tale of inevitable separation.
Lyrics like “Don’t cry, I’ll see you when the sun is up / And if you don’t I’ll wait until you hit the other side” are ambiguous, telling us only enough to deduce that there is some kind of unwanted parting taking place between the singer and another. The combination of this liminality along with synthetic vocals creates a sort of sonic dreamscape, where we’re unsure of what we know, only what we feel - this sense of longing that the pair compel.
Beneath the lyrics, the drums cut through steadily with a mechanical precision, giving the emotional fogginess a shape and anchoring the nostalgic haze that Wotts have created.
And yet, for all its sadness, the track never feels hopeless. There’s light in the layers - a quiet optimism tucked between the beats, suggesting that maybe not all endings are final. It’s dreamy, yes, but full of motion - like moving forward through memory, with your head in the clouds and your heart still open.
