The Favors are back with their latest single ‘Times Square Jesus’, it feels like stepping into a confession booth hidden in the middle of New York City; vulnerable, exposed and weirdly comforting at the same time.
Their first few tracks leaned more into a cinematic folk-pop vibe, this track strips back everything from the raw heart of longing, beautiful guitar chords lay the foundation, joined by strings that dance in and out, demonstrating thoughts passing, while leaving room for lyrics to cut through with startling intimacy.
At its core, ‘Times Square Jesus’ is about the things we can’t say out loud or to that somebody we truly love, the secrets we carry with fear of being truly seen. The metaphor of encountering a larger-than-life ‘Times Square Jesus’ is clever; in a city of neon lights, the idea of suddenly facing a figure who demands honesty becomes a stand-in for our own conscience. “Everybody knows that you’re my weakness”, the opening line of the chorus, setting the tone for a confession both tender and aching.
This song is very special; this is shown by the fragility and strength of the writing. The vocals are not forced and instead breathed naturally like a quiet conversation late at night. The emotional weight lingers long after the last note. It’s not a song that begs for attention; it earns it quietly, leaving listeners with the haunting reminder that sometimes the truths we fear the most are the ones we need to face.
The Favors prove they’re not just chasing pretty melodies; they’re building worlds where vulnerability feels sacred.
