IDLES Releases Chaotic New Single ‘Rabbit Run’ for Upcoming Film ‘Caught Stealing’

IDLES are back! The band is on soundtrack duties for the upcoming Darren Aronofsky film “Caught Stealing”, and gives us a track that feels like a punch to the face.

The band confirmed that it would provide four new tracks for the film, which revolves around Austin Butler’s character, an ex-baseball player who unexpectedly gets involved in the New York criminal underworld.

‘Rabbit Run’ feels like IDLES continuing the path it set upon with its last album, “TANGK”. The bursts of heavy guitars, clanging drums, and Joe Talbot’s shouty vocals unleash moments of chaos that feel cinematic. It even leaves room for quieter moments that build to sheer chaos.

Even without any context for the film, this piece works perfectly on its own for the listener, as it doesn't mention specific events from the film and instead creates a vague enough path for it to stand on its own.

The lyrics paint a picture of a character who is between moments of boredom and extreme violence. Lyrics like, “Make way for collateral damage when I'm bored / Pick the scab on the arm of the beast til’ it's ravaged when I'm bored”.  And lyrics like, “Come to me like a boa snake / Pressing on me like a toothache”, evoke the idea of being chased, and feel custom-made for a big set piece in the film.

IDLES makes complete sense for the soundtrack, considering the band's approach to making music that has a violent edge but also contains character and emotion.

We’ll hear the rest of the soundtrack with the film's release on 29 August!
