In recent years, the alternative music scene has been rallied, rocked and roused by an influx of Irish heavyweights such as Fontaines D.C, The Murder Capital and CMAT, alongside dreamy contributions from the Galway hailing trio, NewDad.
After last year saw the release of the band’s acclaimed debut album, ‘MADRA’, NewDad have recently offered the newest glimpse into their impending second album, ‘Altar’, with the impassioned and intimate track, ‘Pretty’.
The second single to be lifted from the album, following the release of the searingly swaggering ‘Roobosh’, ‘Pretty’ adopts a more delicate musical vein.
Consisting of a glistening soundscape that chronicles the band’s reverence for their hometown of Galway, the single brims with an almost palpable longing. Featuring an interplay of Julie Dawson’s silky yet sincere vocals, a backdrop of swirling electric guitar and spinning percussion, ‘Pretty’ acts as an audible adoration for the band’s beloved city, whilst also explicitly discussing the painful prongs of homesickness.
With NewDad having recently moved from Ireland to London, the single is contextualised within the band’s yearning for the place they called home, in turn culminating in a release which is as evocative as it is heartfelt. As demonstrated by their existing discography, NewDad have mastered the art of introspective yet accessible lyricism, with ‘Pretty’ being their most explicit declaration yet.
Alongside the hotly anticipated release of ‘Altar’, via Atlantic Records on 19th September, NewDad are also undertaking a series of UK tour dates this Autumn. Tickets are available on their website.
