Blossom Aloe find Beauty and Chaos in ‘Honey’

Blossom Aloe, the indie rock quintet from Houston, TX continue to refine their signature sound with the new single, ‘Honey’, a deceptively upbeat tune that masks darker lyrical themes beneath an upbeat bedroom-pop sheen with touches of dreamlike psychedelia.

Opening with a shimmering yet strong synth, setting a soft tone before giving way to a funky yet soft bass line and joined by a harsher, crisp electric guitar riff. From the beginning, ‘Honey’ uses contrasting tones to add depth and allude to the song’s meaning, using a combination of catchy, repetitive grooves that grow more intense as the track progresses lulling the listener into a sense of ease and mistrust.

Honey’ is a double entendre between substance addiction and the addictive cycle of a toxic relationship, behaviors and patterns. Lyrics such as “Am I crazy enough to be your friend? / Crazy enough to let you win? / I drive you wild in my ways / Until my wild side drives you away” convey this message and along with the vocals create a sense of desperation and an almost plea. Weave this in with the intent of the instrumentals it adds to the internal conflict and perfectly personifying the softer and harsher elements

Blossom Aloe don’t just write songs, they construct emotional states. ‘Honey’ is the kind of track that makes you want to dance while quietly and suddenly pulling the rug from underneath you. Its clever use of the double entendre that balances beauty and chaos.
