A Vulnerable Side To Luvcat With Bittersweet New Single ‘Blushing’

Luvcat’s latest single, ‘Blushing’, encapsulates the feeling of having an innocent but very real teenage crush. The song combines yearning, pain, fun, and desire into a slow but groovy verse, paired with a serotonin-infused, catchy chorus.

A slightly different side to Luvcat leaves the door open for exploration in her upcoming album, ‘Vicious Delicious’, out on 31st October.

Where some of her previous tracks, such as ‘Vicious Delicious’, ‘He’s My Man’ and ‘Matador’ are punchy, self-assertive, mature, and even seductive, this track reveals a different, more vulnerable side to the singer-songwriter as she pleads, "please don’t leave me lonely".

A naivety underscores the singer’s narrative throughout the track. The track’s central theme of ‘Blushing’ alone captures a feeling of being small, powerless or weakened by someone’s presence, and Luvcat refers to being "eternally seventeen’"– always on the verge of, but never quite an adult, this almost cliché age epitomises all the confusing, painful, yet hopeful feelings of young love. As she sings, she is ‘just a blushing girl’ after all. Despite being brand new, Luvcat’s chords feel incredibly nostalgic and hard-hitting.

Yet the track is equally as entrancing and hypnotic as her others, spiralling into a crescendo which mirrors the speaker’s almost obsessive need for a specific person ("Want you and you only / There’s not anybody else"), and the deprivation of this need propels the track forward. The ascending chorus, driven by a steady beat and complemented by a stunning guitar solo, combines insatiable yearning with joyous hope. It is truly bittersweet, showcasing Luvcat’s variety and potential as an upcoming alternative indie artist.
