The Bristol rock group Oswald Slain has released their latest single ‘Have You Got What You Came Here For?’, taken from upcoming debut album ‘BUCKY’.
With their new album set to release 24 October 2025, the group has also recently dropped ‘Firing Line’, another gritty guitar-driven single.
Oswald Slain have been gaining recognition for their reinvention of the Americana genre. Their most recent singles have come soon after the release of their April 2025 debut EP, ‘KISS ME ON THE MOUTH’. A self reflecting project for lead singer Charlie Fitzgerald, the EP flows seamlessly through the experiences of the singer from his youth to his self-proclaimed flaws. Many similar instrumental elements have been carried over into ‘Have You Got What You Came Here For?’. A change of pace throughout their songs serves to make a punchy and loud chorus the focal point of their work. This is also reflective of the bands claim to have taken influence from timeless artists including Neil Young, The Band and Iggy Pop.
The song ‘Have You Got What You Came Here For?’ opens into a fast and groovy drum sequence paired with a deep electric-guitar rhythm. The song remains anchored by the crisp accents on the hi-hat and playful indie energy driven by the guitar and bass. Fitzgerald’s mysterious and gritty voice gives this song an experimental garage rock feeling, and subtly echoes the sound of the Arctic Monkeys. The group's evolving sound can be felt through the rebellious and angsty tone of the lyrics, with references to punk, violence and expletives.
Comprising of only eight tracks, the band has come to produce their next album, ‘BUCKY’ in lightning speed, writing lyrics in the morning and recording in the afternoon.
Oswald Slain are a promising UK indie-rock band, and ‘Have You Got What You Came Here For?’ is just a glimpse into the future of this Bristol-based talent.
