Hot pink eyebrows contrasted against bleached blonde hair may be what catches your attention; but what draws you in with rising pop-princess Meg Smith is her infectious energy and undeniable knack for penning glittering earworms. Hailing from Los Angeles, Smith's sunny disposition is what drives her overtly positive and preppy cuts that simply demand to be heard.
With an illustrious Times Square billboard under her belt and the recently released 'girls just wanna be famous' going viral, we chat with Meg as she teases upcoming releases and divulges her desert island album picks as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
My name is Meg Smith & I’m from Los Angeles, but currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
What do our readers need to know about you?
I’m the patron saint of pop music! I create music with weird lyrics that also make you want to dance.
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
New music! I recently did a collab with two of my favorite female artists - I’m so excited for people to hear it.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
I once had someone come up to me and say that they recognized me by my pink eyebrows. I also had a fan come up to me after I opened up for Zolita on tour & said that it was his first queer event, and that he hadn’t even come out yet. It was really emotional and special.
What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?
Seeing my face on a billboard in Times Square. Or when Lorde’s sister posted a Tik Tok with my song.
What are your three “desert island” albums?
'A New World Record' by Electric Light Orchestra, 'Speak Now' by Taylor Swift & 'Being Funny in a Foreign Language' by The 1975.
Sum up your sound in three words.
Heavenly, Dramatic, Dancy.
