Hailing from Dublin, For Nina are an upcoming, indie-rock trio with a unique and dreamy sound to bless our eardrums.
They formed through years of academia and have launched their humble start across various local venues. They’re something of a mystery, in parts, with a handful of singles on Spotify and diverse playlists of influence tied to each band member. It’s an enticing brand, and their latest track, ‘Swallow’, is sure to draw more listeners.
Basking in shoegaze influence, it’s hard to tell who exactly the heavenly vocals are coming from, but it’s welcome noise regardless. They maintain a soft, rolling tone, moving throughout the song in a ghostly manner at even the strongest of punches.
Lyrically, a tale of heartbreak and acidic, youthful angst is told, and of “coming back with empty hands”. It’s a track brimming with hope, regardless, carrying through the attempts to repair a wound. For Nina convey this with great might. It’s over every stretched note, building into a boosting, reverbed climax.
These influences are felt deeper in the instrumentals, but with a heavier, modern indie-rock approach. Gentle, crackling chords are underpinned by something of a ticking drum-rhythm for verses, a rattling lullaby of its kind. There are hints of early Wolf Alice, especially in the bold cacophony of its ending.
We’re thrown into this as listeners, but if the band release future tracks of similar force, there’ll be few complaints.
