With sold-out shows and an award winning record ('Eternal Return'), we chat with Sarah about her illustrious career as she divulges here strangest run in with a fan, and her desert island album picks as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame Series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
I’m Sarah Blasko & I’m from Sydney in Australia where I’ve lived my whole life.
What do our readers need to know about you?
I write songs, I play piano, I’ve made seven solo albums. I’m 48 & I just got my drivers license!
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
I’m in the midst of a European & UK tour which I’m excited for as I haven’t been over here since 2019, it’s long overdue. After that I’m going on a holiday to Italy! Lots to look forward to & enjoy at the moment.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
One of the funniest was when I was going under anesthesia for a routine colonoscopy. Certainly one of the strangest times to meet someone who’s a fan of your music! And then there they were when I came to, up for a chat about my songwriting while I was having my recovery tea & toast, ha ha.
What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?
I don’t know if I felt like “I’ve made it” but playing two sold out shows at the Sydney Opera House concert hall with my album ‘I Awake’ was huge for me.
What are your three “desert island” albums?
Cat Power ‘The Greatest’, Björk ‘Homogenic’, Frank Ocean ‘Blonde’.
Sum up your sound in three words.
Hopeful heartbreak music.
