Renforshort Shares A Candid Journey Through ‘a girl’s experience’

Canadian singer-songwriter Renforshort (Lauren Isenberg) has just released her brand new EP ‘a girl’s experience’, it’s composed of four alternative pop tracks that explore different moments in life from a female focused perspective.

After releasing the first single ‘on my way!’ At the end of 2024, the story is now complete and ready for fans to hear.

The EP as a whole delves into the themes of love, longing, self discovery and confronting the complexities of being a young woman. Starting off with ‘feeling good’, a track that yearns for a feeling that you can’t replace. Despite its melancholic lyrics, it has an upbeat energy, driven by strong drum beats that burst into full force during the chorus that she belts out, chasing this feeling she so badly desires. It’s a deeply relatable concept whether that be missing the feeling of love, which the first verse talks about “I was in love…By tomorrow, we’ll be strangers yet again”, or something different entirely. What makes this collection of songs so compelling is that it shares Renforshort’s personal experiences whilst still being applicable to others.

The second song is ‘on my way!’, which is an optimistic outlook on life, a contrast to the first song, highlighting that in life you go through a rollercoaster of emotions, particularly as you’re trying to find yourself as a young adult. One minute it can feel like nothing will get better, but this song believes in the light at the end of the tunnel. The warmth of Renforshort's vocals blends seamlessly with the song’s layered instrumentation, resulting in a sound that’s much more vibrant and emotionally uplifting.

‘Pretend to like me’ kicks in and immediately the vibe is different, it’s edgier with distorted vocals from the offbeat and a heavier overall sound. As a listener we can now hear the anger and desperation behind this song's story. It’s all about the ache of having feelings for someone who doesn’t feel the same, so much so that you’d accept even fake affection.

To draw the EP to a close it ends on ‘you’re the one’ - a romantic declaration. There’s a hint of irony as she sings about finding “the one” after exploring a lack of love throughout the rest of the project. That, however, is what makes the title of this EP so fitting, it reflects the emotional complexity of many, but particularly life experiences as a young woman. Each of these tracks has stand out elements and for ‘you’re the one’ it’s the conversational verses, Renforshort speaks directly to her lover throughout but these segments in particular are much more raw and unrestrained.

To fully tie this EP together, three of the four songs have music videos that depict one full story. While each song flows into the next on its own, the visual narrative adds a new layer of depth. The story begins with ‘on my way!’, where Renforshort is getting ready to go out with her friends - putting on makeup, dancing in her bathroom and jumping into an uber. ‘Feeling good’ then picks up from them getting out and walking to a club where the energy heightens with scenes of flashing lights on the dance floor and drinks in hand. There, she meets someone and by the end of the video, we see her leave the dance floor with him. During ‘you’re the one’ we see them both walk around the streets together before heading back to her apartment, where this journey started.

‘a girl's experience’ tells the story of Renforshort's and many others' lives, giving her fans the ability to interpret these songs as they see fit. Perfect for having those moments of solitary self reflection whilst simultaneously being upbeat enough to dance along with your friends to.
