The groovy drum solo gets you hooked straight away before the welcome addition of the bass fully sweeps you in and guarantees that you’ll want to stay with this song from start to finish.
The English singer’s enchanting vocals perfectly capture the uneasy feeling of uncertainty, but not being able to quite put your finger on why. Delivered with a poppier rhythm, this provides an almost hilarious juxtaposition to the message of the song.
The lyric “I’m whatever you want, and I’m nothing at all” helps to showcase Marriott’s exceptional songwriting. It’s a line which discusses the feeling of needing to be loved, so much so that you’re willing to alter everything about yourself in order to be wanted, but how you may eventually lose yourself to this desire.
Finding humour in the pain, ‘Something’s Wrong’ is a danceable and addictive track, only proved further by the slightly crazed repetition of “Does it feel like something’s wrong? / Does it feel like something’s off?” at the end, which grows louder and more frantic as each repetition goes by. The pounding drum solo strikes once again, only this time to wrap up the song completely and provide one last hurrah.
Taking on a slightly moodier direction from his other songs, ‘Something’s Wrong’ proves just how far Marriott has grown and matured as a musician. The track leaves us excited to see what he does next with his long awaited second album, ‘Don’t Tell The Dog’, which is set to grace the world on the 13th of June!
