With the immediate streaming success of CATTY's latest single ‘Joyride’, expectations were high for the music video, which would be the artist's first.
What some fans may not have expected was BBC 'I Kissed A Girl’s' Amy Spalding to be co-starring in this Thelma & Louise-inspired production, swapping the Lime bike for the driver's seat.
Bringing not only CATTY’s music video debut but also the relationship hard launch of the century, this sapphic tale finds the pair driving around country lanes in a vintage convertible. With the pair kissing just 25 seconds in, the music video is a steamy, joyful, and thrill-seeking five minutes of cinematography.
Launching the ‘Joyride’ music video on social media, CATTY wrote “Thelma and Louise should have kissed”. The video, co-written, produced and starring CATTY and Amy Spalding is bringing well-needed on-screen Lesbian representation with a splash of double denim, steel-toed cowboy boots, and matching ‘DYKE’ rings from Amy Spalding’s SLT Studios. Queer joy is soundtracked by bold vocals and musical theatre storytelling in this masterpiece directed by Sam Kinsella.
Further building her reputation as a rockstar and passenger princess, the music video draws less on CATTY’s lyrical questioning, “Can't tell if you're in for good or if I'm / Warming your bed before I get replaced”, and more on the reckless abandon of falling in love, “I don't even care if I get out alive / I'ma let you take me on a joyride”.
With the building of the bridge comes a change of musical texture and scene; unbuttoned shirts, wine bottles, and handfuls of money thrown into the air have left fans speechless. Watching the YouTube premiere with live commentary from the co-stars, fans made their excitement and admiration for the video clear with comments of "jaw is on the floor" and "song of the summer".
