Jae Stephens Channels 'Mambo No.5' With Name-Dropping Hit ‘SMH’

After dropping the sealed-with-a-kiss EP ‘Sellout’ in September, Jae Stephens has been on a mission to catapult into mainstream pop culture and ‘SMH’ might just be her fastpass. 

This new single, which tallies up a total five guys while Lou Bega’s 1999 classic ‘Mambo No.5’ reigns supreme name-dropping seven ladies, while Stephens’ sweeps the floor in terms of sass.

It’s been over 25 years since the dancefloor filler hit our ears and the ways to start a relationship have definitely broadened since Bega had “A little bit of Erica” by his side as Stephens states “I got John, I keep back home / But his best friend is on my phone”.

‘SMH’, full title ‘So Many H*es’ starts with an electronic stint and a man’s vocals whispering “Jae” similar to her Pharrell-twanged banger, ‘Body Favours’ which features a call and response between herself and a male love interest.

The playful new release from the American star may be under three minutes long but she still has time to squeeze a cheeky bridge in and even debate her love life all together, “I love him, I love him, I love him not”.

Jae Stephens is set to join UK girl group FLO on the US leg of their ‘Access All Areas’ tour where it’s safe to say this song will get a prime slot, potentially introducing this smash to a whole new crowd of R&B devotees.
