Linkin Park are back with new single, ‘Unshatter’ complete with visualiser. The single, alongside ‘Up From The Bottom’ and unreleased track ‘Let You Fade’, are taken from the upcoming deluxe edition of the band’s comeback album, ‘From Zero’.
While only made available to listeners now, the track is a glimpse into the early writing sessions between the band and new vocalist Emily Armstrong.
Discussing the single, Shinoda commented: “'Unshatter' was an early track we made while recording 'From Zero'; Emily's huge vocal in the bridge was one of the moments that gave us an indication of what was possible together.”
Opening with thunderous riffs and a stomping groove, ‘Unshatter’ courses with propulsive energy from the outset. Painting a picture of a soured relationship, Shinoda’s vocals start the track, channelling early 00s in his signature delivery, flowing seamlessly with the mid-tempo drum beat.
The stand-out of the track is Armstrong’s vocals—made even more impressive with the knowledge that it was one of the earlier sessions between the musicians. Her ability to shift between emotively driven melodies and grit-filled singing to ferocious screams is what drives the song, bringing the track’s story to life.
With distorted guitars and an aggressive tone that taps into pop-punk territory, the song is sonically shattering and on the very precipice of detonation. ‘From Zero (Deluxe Edition)’ is due for release on May 16th, pre-order it here.
