As a curator of songs that you’ll want to both cry and dance to, Manchester-native Phoebe Green sings of being a cynic and a romantic all at once on her newest track ‘I Could Try To Change' from her EP ‘The Container’. With her refreshing take on the trials and tribulations of modern relationships, Green is torn between being something different or letting go.
Green phases early 2010s synths in and out hypnotically throughout the track, a sound from the likes of Robyn and Lykke Li. Immediately we are drawn in by her soft and distant vocals, and there is a swimming reverb as Green’s angelic tones cry out like a mixture of The Japanese House and Holly Humberstone.
In the end, Green feels deeply for her partner even though she is the one pulling away. It’s vulnerable to her and that’s what makes the track all the more beautiful. It’s a pop track with that twinge of Phoebe Green sadness. She leaves it up to her partner, as aren’t all relationships actually us trying to change, even if we don’t realize it, for the better: “It isn't the same / And it's your decision to make / Whether you leave or stay / Do you blame me for keeping you out of my way / Just wanna keep you sane”
Green is set to do a small run of shows across the UK in April 2025, so we highly recommend seeing her on tour. You can find tickets for her London gig here.
