Machine Gun Kelly Collaborates With Travis Barker Once Again On New Single ‘papercuts’

After announcing that he will be releasing a second album in collaboration with Travis Barker, Machine Gun Kelly has revealed the lead single ‘papercuts’. The album was announced through a video posted to Instagram where the pair showed off matching tattoos of the album title ‘born with horns’.

It will follow the pair’s first collaborative album ‘Tickets To My Downfall’ which was released in September 2020. ‘papercuts’ follows the gritty pop-punk sound that they established on ‘Tickets To My Downfall’ – a sound which is worlds away from his former rap music. However, the album saw him skyrocket to new levels of fame, earning his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.

Lyrically, the track speaks of MGK’s ongoing struggles in the limelight, following his recent musical success as well as his very public relationship with Megan Fox. He openly admits that he “Internalised everything the headlines say lately”, confessing that he struggles with the analysis of his life in the media. The lyric “Signed a deal, I got papercuts” is a clever play on the phrase “make a deal with the devil”, exposing the darker sides of the industry.

The track was released alongside a Cole Bennett-directed music video, which got many of MGK’s fans talking because he was sporting a very unfamiliar look – he appeared to have shaved his statement disheveled blonde locks to reveal a tattoo on his scalp. Barker also starred in the video.

If ‘papercuts’ is anything to go by, then it seems likely that ‘born with horns’ will be just as successful as ‘Tickets To My Downfall’. Even though the release date has not yet been announced, Barker and MGK appear to be an unstoppable duo, and it is refreshing to hear them bringing pop-punk back to the mainstream.
