MEET... Rex Orange County

Alexander O'Connor better known as Rex Orange County is a singer/ songwriter and producer from Haslemere in Surrey. He combines bedroom production with pop, hip-hop, and jazz.

He burst onto the music scene in 2015 when he released his self-produced album Bcos U Will Never B Free on Soundcloud, this gained him attention and built him an ever-growing fanbase.

On Bcos U Will Never B Free was the release of “Corduroy Dreams” A personal favourite of mine. This simple and laid-back song is a great example of Rex Orange County and his finest.

The release of Bcos U Will Never B Free gained the attention of producer Two Inch Punch and with this came the release of “UNO” “Untitled” and “Bestfriend”.

Since its release “Best Friend” has definitely made its mark on the indie fan base and it is definitely one of Rex Orange County’s signature songs. The jazz-infused indie track has smooth calming vocals and catchy melodic hooks.

The release of these tracks caught the attention of Tyler, the Creator who flew him out to work on the album Flower Boy.

In 2017 Rex Orange County released Apricot Princess as his second studio album. The album is a rollercoaster of synths, drums, and pianos. This album features the track ‘sycamore girl’ a smooth modern jazz song.

Pony was released on the 25th October 2019. The first track on the album is “10/10” lyrics from it saying “I had a year that nearly sent me off the edge, I feel like a five I can’t pretend” this song is a bit like a look into O’Connors Diary and definitely a stand out track for me.

NME called Pony “a total Delight” giving it a rating of 5/5 stars.

Rex Orange County definitely has a bright future and I’m excited to see what the next album has in store...
