BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD RELEASED NEW SINGLE - TRACK X

London-via-Cambridge’s seven-piece indie rock band Black Country, New Road has released a new single ‘Track X’ from their forthcoming debut album 'For the first time’ which will come out on 5th February via Ninja Tune.

Track X drew my attention immediately when I listened to it for the first time, because it differs from the other releases from the band to date such as the well-known Sunglasses, or their previous release – Science Fair. Whilst most of their songs have been jazzy with a sharp edge of post-punk - ‘Track X’, surprisingly, is softer, warmer, more soothing and melodic. With the instrumental support from gloomy saxophone, energetic guitar, vigorous and uplifting violin, and just-right synth, the rhythm becomes clearer gradually.

With the lyrics, a story of love, loss and sadness was told by vocalist Isaac Wood, with softer and less-intense vocals, giving the audience an idea of more possibilities of Black Country, New Road sounds.

“Dancing to Jerskin, I got down on my knees.”

“I told you I loved you in front of Black Midi.”

But these two lines truly made me smile - it reminds people of the time before pandemic, when gigs were still happening, the days people could sing and dance at Windmill Brixton, in front of Black Midi.

“The story is old but a good one and worth telling. We believe that people will enjoy singing along.” – Isaac Wood explained in a statement.

As the first song Black Country, New Road worked on back in 2018, they never put it on a gig setlist; but surely, we are more looking forward to their new album.

At the same time the single was out, the band also uploaded a music video directed by Bart Price, which, with no surprise, portrayed a vision of nostalgia - the classic Black Country, New Road style.

The band also announced a livestream from London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on 6th March to celebrate the album release.
