Billie Eilish: Live

Venue: Manchester Academy 1
Capacity: 2,300
Support:  Finneas + Earthgang

Billie announced her plans to tour the UK mid-august 2018, visiting Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, follow by three London dates. After a venue upgrade from The Ritz to Manchester Academy due to phenomenal demand, over a thousand fans cheered Billie onto the stage for her Manchester debut and the first UK show of her sold out 1 by 1 tour.

To the glee of myself and fans alike, Billie performed some of her early singles and non-album tracks, including Six Feet Under and Lovely (from the soundtrack of 13 Reasons Why). Seventeen years old, loved by millions, and in the top 30 most listened to artists on spotify, this American pop teenage-sensation is only going to get bigger...

Supported by her brother Finneas and Earthgang, the majority of the concert was almost certainly more 'rave' than I'm used to for an Academy gig.

Copycat absolutely blew up and I couldn't fault Billie's performance - my only negative from the concert was that the crowd was what I would describe as being like that from a Hannah Montana concert when she was at her peak - thousands of screaming teen girls - it was crazy.

The teen sensation rose to fame seemingly overnight after the release of her debut single 'Ocean Eyes' (written by her elder brother), which was swiftly followed by Six Feet Under, perhaps my favourite of her tracks. The debut EP Don't Smile At Me was released mid 2017 peaking at number one in the Billboard charts. The EP also reached Gold status in America, and Platinum in both Canada and New Zealand. Billie has supported a number of big names in past years, including Florence and the Machine on their 2018 tour.

Billie has received praise from a number of big names in the music industry including Flea and Dave Grohl. Grohl recently saw Billie live, accompanying his daughters to the show, and he commented;

"... I went to see Billie Eilish not too long ago. Oh my god man. Unbelievable, My daughters are obsessed with Billie Eilish. And what I'm seeing happening with my daughters is the same revolution what happened to me at their age. My daughters are listening to Billie Eilish and they're becoming themselves through her music. She totally connects with them... the connection that she has with her audience is the same thing that was happening with Nirvana in 1991... and her music is hard to define! … I try to describe her to people and I don't know... I don't even know what to call it. But it's authentic. And I would call that rock n roll. So... I don't care what sort of instruments you use to do it. When I look at someon like Billie Eilish, I'm like...shit man... rock n roll is not even close to being dead..."

In anticipation of her upcoming album inspired by lucid dreams and night terrors - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go - which features and eerie album cover, Billie has released a number of singles and music videos, including You Should See Me In A Crown (inspired by an episode of Sherlock - The Reichenbach Falls), When The Party's Over and Bury A Friend.

Billie's new album is due out on March 29th.
